Lego × IA

Google showed off an AI that judges LEGO builds at its Cloud Summit, and we rebuilt it in three days for a contest between two directors. As first-year Epitech students with no prior experience, at a time when AI API keys were hard to get and most Google AI services weren't enabled in La Réunion, we found our way through Vertex AI.

Context

After Google ran a LEGO challenge judged by AI at the Google Cloud Summit Paris 2025, the Réunion campus wanted a rematch between its director and Epitech's managing director. No public tool existed, so we built one, with no prior web or API experience.

What was built

  • Real-time game flow: players join by code from their phones, state synced through Supabase Realtime
  • Node/Express backend that sends each photo to Gemini with a 100-point scoring rubric
  • Replaced Firebase and Gemini API features unavailable in La Réunion with Supabase and Google Cloud
  • Ran the live contest between the two directors
